Babies teeth at various ages, some from 3-4 months some not till 6 months or more. There is no right or wrong age and believe it or not some babies are born with teeth.

3. Buying Amber - A Mums Check List

Never buy a necklace with out proof of where it came from. Baltic amber comes from a selected region along the baltic sea, normal amber or manufactured amber will not work the same as genuine baltic amber.

Always buy an amber necklace from a registered insured Australian business.

Necklaces sold online can be hard to inspect for quality assurance and authenticity.

Determine the correct length you will need, generally 33 cm for infants and toddlers, 36-47cm for primary school age children, and any desired length for adults.

Think about whether you would prefer a necklace or two bracelets. Both have the same effects as they hold the same amount of amber.

What colour do you prefer? Amber comes in many variations of colour, shape and finish. The difference in colour effectiveness is so little it is not worth mention, rather we say the more amber touching the skin the better the effect.

Always ask about warrantees, whether a company stands by their product and for how long.

Always check the amber cannot fit over the chin into the childs mouth, but is not too tight against the neck.

Always look over the amber necklace for visible flaws/cracks/damage. Amber is a natural substance not plastic, and can be broken if damaged/dropped/crushed.

Think about what clasp you prefer. Little Smiles Amber stock only screw clasps on infant and children's amber as we believe it to be the safer option.

Never wear beads which are chipped or sharp.

Why not wear some your self? Neck issues or muscle strains? Give it a go.

4. What is Baltic Amber?

Baltic Amber is not a stone and therefore warm to the touch, as well as very comfortable and light to wear. The Baltic amber -succinite - is fossilised resin produced by plants 40 - 50 million years ago. In nature the resin would have been used by plants as an antibiotic against viruses, a substance healing cuts or a plaster for wound dressing. Now fossilised, its properties have been captured.

5. What research has been done on Baltic Amber?

The ingredient in Baltic amber is succinic acid, which was analysed by the pioneer of modern bacteriology and Nobel-prize winner Robert Koch (1886). He confirmed its positive influences and discovered that there is no risk of the accumulation of surplus amounts of succinic acid in the body. Recent scientific research has also proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence.

6. Are Amber Teething Necklaces safe?

As a safety feature there is a knot before and after each bead, so that even in the event of the string being torn, only one bead will fall off the necklaces. Our necklaces are secured with a screw clasp which do not contain free moving small parts. Using the necklaces correctly and under super vision our products are very safe.

7. I've heard some negative talk about amber lately, whats that about?

There will always be negative views, false information and misinformed people. Amber Teething Necklace Safety is of the upmost importance to us, which is why we strive to educate and deliver quality products for mums and dads all over Australia and the world. Our amber products are completely safe when used correctly, as are most amber products in general. Informed parents love our items, and as a mother from a pharmacy back ground i myself i would never use something which wasn't safe on my child.

8. How old does the child need to be to wear a stretchy bracelet?

We recommend that the stretchy bracelets are not worn by children under the age of 3 years - this is because the bracelets are threaded on elastic, and do not have the safety feature of a knot between each bead. Baby bracelets are not stretchy and a much safer design for youngsters for wrists and ankles.

9. Is it OK for my baby to wear the amber teething necklace 24/7 including when asleep?

Little Smiles Amber and the office of fair trading both recommend you take the necklace off whenever your baby doesn't have constant adult supervision. A safe alternative if you would like your baby to wear the amber at night, is to wrap the necklace around your baby's ankle under footed pyjamas where it can not be grabbed loose, or alternativly just remove at night and replace in the morning.

10. Is it okay to get the amber teething necklace wet?

Most brands recommend that the necklace is removed during swimming and bath time, as the beads are threaded on thread, which will deteriorate and break more easily if it is repeatedly gotten wet, however water will not harm the product if it is completely dried after each time.

11. When is it safe for my my baby to wear the necklace?

With supervision, the necklace or bracelet may be worn from 8 weeks onwards, or as soon as the baby starts teething or showing any signs of pain or discomfort from teething.

12. How long will my amber teething necklace last?

The teething necklaces are specifically designed for use with babies and are therefore extremely durable. With the right care, one necklace will last and become a treasured heirloom to pass down in the family.

My baby wants to chew on the necklace, is this OK? No, the necklace is made for wearing, not for chewing. The easiest solution is to tuck it under their clothing and the necklace will quickly assume body temperature and the child will ignore it. You should use other teething aids such as chewing toys or cool foods to meet your baby's increased chewing needs, just do not ever offer chew beads or small chew toys.

13. Will this necklace solve my baby teething problems on its own?

An amber necklace is a natural teething aid, and every child is different. Our success rates from feedback from mums is very high with only one in 50 saying they saw little or no improvement, and many continuing to use them in aid of such things as growing pains and immunisation side effects. Remember teething times are hard, not just on babies and toddlers but on mums as well. Take time to look after your self, rest, refocus, and remember its normal to feel exhausted and helpless sometimes, but teething wont last forever.

14. My amber necklace is broken, what should i do?

Stop using it immediatly. Damage can happen to amber. Amber is a natural substance, so unlike stones, plastic or glass, amber can break if chewed, crushed or by other means of forceful impact. But not to worry, we honour our product warranty we will still replace it with proof of purchase or original packaging for a similar product.

15. Do you have baltic amber which is flawed, broken or missing a bead from another supplier?

Its best to contact that company with your proof of purchase.
